Fabric love

This is my first time buying from Spoonflower. USD18 per yard, go convert it hmmm...
So, im gonna make something for my lil girl, for her new room :)

Spoonflower is a website that gathers all the designers who design their own fabric. So, you can submit your drawings and sell it there. So these are some of the fabric I bought from there. Its quite expensive but worth it.

Spoonflower fabric doesnt print till the selvages. Its like a frame, where your prints actually prints in the middle with the white frame as a border.

And that was when I decide that these are personal fabrics not Okinokiyo's :D

This is something I need to work on today onwards...

This week

This week can be said a bit hectic, but then, I managed to squeeze sometime to sew something for my daughter. She hardly has new dress (for home). Since Im officially an Instagram addict, I want to snap pictures as much as possible because editing is fun! I managed to buy Snapseed apps when it went free last week. Yayyy, the normal price is $4.99.

Anyways, I made a dress using a batik sarong, bought in Bandung 3 years back. Love the colors, not a usual floral batik prints and suitable for anything you want to sew. Batik sarong, is a good deal since its big, almost 3 yards I think and I could make 2 dresses out of it, and still got remaining, which, I can make few bags I think.

Peasant dress on the left, and another on the right. See the different expression? :p

Last nite, I made one order for Nurul. Nurul was a walk in customer in last Crafty Market, and one of the order is this hat, for a friend's son. Happy birthday little boy!

Yellow cars fabric & Turqouise Train fabric. Super ♥

This is the 3rd dress I made for Nasya this week. The fabric was bought last 2 years for Nasya's baju kurung and suddenly it turns out to be a dress. :D

Using the same pattern for Nasya's 2nd birthday dress.

And last but not least, this is a DIY skirt. I posted this in the FB yesterday. Using a natural cotton, I sew, dye, draw and let Nasya color it. Em, she did add few drawings of her and a cousin by the slide. I might say that this is a one of a kind skirt, because, another person can hardly make the same skirt as this. You can try this too at home.

Coloring and drawing done using a fabric pen & crayon. Fabric pen can be bought at Art Friend, The Gardens. The fabric crayon can be found in Popular. There are also Fabric Markers by Crayola I saw at Toys R Us.

A one of a kind skirt

So, how is your week so far? Do follow me on Instagram! My nickname as usual, okinokiyo!

DIY : Mod Podge Fabric Scraps

So, the mirror is one thing I did this morning. I was cleaning my corner of the studio, moving the printer out, and at the same time, I cleaned the other room.

To my surprise, I found the Ikea mirror I bought yearrrrs ago. So long that I forgot I have it. So, mod podge it! Yeah!! The cans? Nasya did that, a day earlier.

I used Fabric Mod Podge I got from Art Friend for RM30+ for a bottle. Mod Podge is a 3 in 1 thing which can seal, glue and finish. So simple that Nasya keeps wanting to do this. You can do this at home with your lil one too. It is so simple and fun, and gives you a great outcome.

So, what's for tomorrow....-_-"

You can dig some cool ideas from this Mod Podge website too!

Urbanscapes fever

I think Im gonna die. I cannot read the @urbanscapes tweets or I will die earlier. I dont want to know how many days left for the Urbanscapes coz we dont have the time.

Its about plus minus 2 weeks time between Markets & Urbanscapes and I need to come out with new things. But of course I have back ups. Back ups of what should I sell if I cannot make much hats. Its a gamble actually, but its a thing that have been postponed for quite sometime. And past 2-3 days, I managed to make 8 hats, which 3 of them have gone to the bin.

The 2nd nite, after 3 hats went to the bin

Some other things that will be there is the zipper bags. Multipurpose zipper bags - I have 2 myself in my handbag, my husband has 2 as well- he put all the medications/supplements *he brings whenever he was out of town* and he always buy the zipper bags from me, as a gift for his colleague.

But still I managed to homeschool my daughter in between this busy schedule. This time around she writes. Capital & small letters. Hmmm..how eh?

The Bb Cc Dd in the 2nd row were my writings

And after Urbanscapes, I got 1 month to prepare for Markets in August. Die!

Lets complete some orders tonite!

For the past one week

Here are some of the pics that I snapped last week. I tweet-ed them as well.

1. My buddy with the lamp. I didnt use the lamp when we were at the old apartment, but I do need this here. It helps much since I can only sew at nite. Without distraction. :D

2. I was re-arranging things until now, when I found out that, my fabric are only these. So little!

So, Saturday morning, I was so itch to went to fabric shop just to buy. But I didnt find the way, to the local shop. So, I went back home, frustrated. This morning, after breakfast and our usual routine - the wet market, we found the local shop - my husband was driving. And, Im happy that they have the polka dots as well.

3. I made something for my lil girl. 2 bloomers and a short pants. Initially to sew her pyjama pants. But I didnt notice I was cutting the bloomers pattern instead. So, maybe she can use the stripes for pyjama pants.
I still want to make a dress for her. One simple dress from this local fabric...I just cant wait to see her happy face tomorrow to get new pants. She did complaint that she wanted new pants.

And to those who already paid, your orders will be posted on Tuesday, tomorrow. I finished all of them, only that, pending the address, labelling etc.

Thanks yeah? Happy Monday!

Hats and what else?

My husband challenged me to bring 100 hats to this weekend market - Crafty Art Market with variety designs. Designs here meaning pattern. Not the prints. So, Im cracking my head to come out with new ones within this limited time. I wanted to share here that, I fall in love with solid colors fabric as well..and now Im working a lot with corduroy, denims, linens..They are as adorable as the normal quilting cotton and sometimes I do think they are emmm BETTER? And they give the structured look for the hats Im making.

Well, actually we keep on changing plans and strategies. Part of me wanted to bring more clothings - dresses/skirts etc but my husband said, Im good at HATS. So do HATS. And I think he's right. So, yeah, no dresses/skirts. Only HATS.

As I mentioned in previous entry, I got a helper. None other than Yummy Mommy YAM! :p She stays nearby and although she's pregnant now, shes still willing to help and hopefully along the way, she managed to come out with her *something something* other than the lil one :D. All the best for her!

Im in a panic mode actually coz I dont know if Im close to 100 hats or not. Just to let you know Im still alive and....and ....and, I noticed some of you email me using the NOT WORKING EMAIL - info@okinokiyo.com. Please...please...do resend your email at okinkiyo@gmail.com okay?

Last but not least, isnt she adorable!! Haseena of Nannoor!!

Ok, now cutting mode again. Bye all and see you this weekend!

p/s - More prints and solid colors, linens and textures coming after the market.

Lots of them

....Sunhats, dresses and PILLOWS!

All of sudden, I got lots of pillow cases and pillows orders. Too bad that I didnt take much picture of them. You know why? Coz, I usually finished sewing very late at nite, and then, I straight away pack the orders so that my PosLaju Man will pick up the packages around 9-10am. The early morning is my time to fill in all the Poslaju forms and whatnot..so usually I only remember that I didnt take the photos after all the packages are sealed :S

Like below... :) Order from Jade~

Pillow cases from Nora CPM~

Custom order with customer's own fabric. This one, I will make one special entry for this. Coz she ordered few items..And Im enjoying every single seconds making it. Both fabric are so arghhh yummy! Love the skulls!!!

But, you know, I managed to escape recent weekend to my hometown, and I thought I can use this vintage machine. I managed fix it, but the stitch quality is not up to my standard. I guess, its the thread. An old one, so next time, I shall bring all my threads.. :)

Emm, what else, I should go to bed now, and prepare some of the orders that need to be posted tomorrow...Till then, bye :)

This skirt is now open for order. :)

Jumper in action

Lola was the one asked me whether I do jumpers or not. I dont know earlier that this is easy. I was looking at the instruction in a book and I found it so difficult with so many pieces or maybe that particular design has lot of embellishment on it. And many more pattern I found in the internet are using a halter back design which I am not so fond of.

So, right after the Handmade Market, I sit down and draft the design.

I used a cheap fabric to make a sample and she did complain that, its hard for her to squat and I found out the bodice is quite big... Ok, so early Monday morning, I made another one. So that's it.

She wore this during her drawing class and later she went to play at the kids area and I saw that she was ok with all the jumping, running and all. So pattern passed (for me)! Only the problem when she was wearing this kind of clothing is, when she is going to the toilet, I have to take everything off and she was curious as well, why I do need to take off her clothes :D

Please comment.

Corduroy - Yay or Nay?

I am thinking maybe to bring corduroy in for the sun hats, but I dont know how is the demand here. Because usually I match either with another plain cotton or denim, so corduroy, why not?

FYI this corduroy has so many colors. If there is a demand, I may bring in the popular colors such as pink and blue. To those who do not know how it looks like, below is the zoom in of the texture ..

image googled

What do you say? I need your opinion..

Thanks & enjoy your weekend as much as I do.

Sunhats marathon

As expected, I was on sunhats marathon the whole last week. It was fun and entertaining only the part when I got flu and fever in the middle of it.

Not because of the marathon, but because I was too much under full blast air-cond. I just cant stand air cond 24x7 but seeing my daughter cant sleep well because she was sweating, I gave in. So one day break from sewing giving my strength back to complete all orders.

I want to share this one picture although the picture is not that clear, taken using my phone in the middle of the nite, or was it early morning? I found this sunhat is beautifully structured. I didnt notice this until I put this on my rattan head...it is beautiful. Thanks for the order.

Im closing all orders for adult sunhat, and might be opening it back by next month...And few more fabric going to be uploaded within next week..As usual the ready made sunhats are all in the Okinokiyo Bigcartel Shop.

Till then, have a nice day people! :)

Drools and more drools over the fabric

I am so into animal prints. So these are the ones that caught my eyes and I've been drooling it for quite sometimes and I will bring in some, somtime in future or sometime in end of month? Ohh end of month is next week?? Hahaha..How time flies!

I love owls but my daughter is not. She loves to see but resist to wear any with owl prints. So Im looking into birds now. Dont you think the right top is beaaaaautiful?? It is right?? Match with stripes or hot pink or lime green fabric..yummy..soo yummy!

I looked at my fabric stashed and noticed that I lacked of YELLOW. Last time, I was too much in pinks, then now I have lots of greens and purples, and now I need more yellows and blue I think :p . Hope that is a good excuse to stack more fabric yeah?

And I added this bottom banner to my coming posts, because some might not know or cant remember bigcartel shop address, so, you can just click. The orangey and green sparrow dress was sold last nite. So, I am sooo looking forward to sew more. But last nite I managed to finish one order only since my daughter was down with fever.

Okay, hope you enjoy Friday as I am, and hello weekends!

Peacock and Red Kitchen Aid Mixer

I do not know if most of you realise or not that I am not fan of floral so much. I did have some floral prints but in some very limited stocks. I can even count how many times I bought the floral fabrics :)

I prefer loud, bright, colorful and preferably NON floral prints so much. But I love peacocks. I bought few peacocks prints and made Nasya's dresses and skirts using them but when I came through these fabrics, I knew that I MUST have all the prints in all the 3 colors.

Its a home decor fabric, which I assume the fabric weight is heavier a bit compare to the normal quilting fabric. So, maybe I will buy them to cover the future grandfather chair or future sofa. Hahaha, see how I forecast my life :p

I hope those fabric comes faster not in September as scheduled. Its so long to wait. Sigh~

Okay, this one, is dedicated to any Kitchen Aid mixer user. Especially in RED. Its also a home decor fabric, which I think I might get this as well as I plan to buy the mixer because I love to bake for the family *is this a great excuse ? hehehe*

Its gorgeous! Period. ^_^
