Putrajaya

You know Putrajaya has beautiful buildings? Im imagining of taking lots of photos of Nasya wearing hats there. InsyaAllah one fine day.Yesterday we were there to meet Mye.

To make sure Nasya was not bored, I asked her to get out of the car and I snapped few photos. Will definitely come back to have a proper photo shoot there.

The Rorry Hat

Munirah ordered this Rorry hat last month, before raya and I just finished making it sometimes last week. Its for Harith. When I snap this photo, I have yet completed another one for Uwais. And there is another hat for Athirah :)

Anyways, Im going to elaborate the Rorry Hat in this post. Its a unisex hat. Suitable for babies to toddler. And I made one in linen, bought by a customer for her sweet daughter Maya, and another one I made in oxford fabric also perfect bought by a customer during 4th Crafty Market.

Shown here is Harith's in black corduroy. You know that sewing corduroy is, soooo tedious, as it frays, like h*ll. So, thats why the price is RM65.

As usual, its reversible, and I only use cotton for the inner layer. Dont ask me to put another corduroy inside. Please listen to the expert :P. Imagine, you want a chiffon baju kurung layered with another chiffon, it just doesnt work ok? For babies, I will suggest lined with organic cotton. :)

And since I ran out of colors for corduroy, I stocked up the stash with some new colors, see below.

And, I have a printed corduroy in pink too! Limited to 2 pieces only. Let me know if you wanted a floral printed corduroy, I will try to get that as well.

And last but not least, model in action!

Athirah & Hartih during their gateway in Cameron Highland. Looks like professional model right? Thanks Munirah for the photo!

If you want a beautiful photos, you can go engage Munirah coz she is a pro! Go here to see her beautiful snapshots www.tripletsplusone.com

So, yes, I will accept Rorry Hat order with oxford, linen and corduroy fabric for the outer layer, and any cotton for the inner layer. The combination just perfect, okay?

Have a nice day!

This week

This week can be said a bit hectic, but then, I managed to squeeze sometime to sew something for my daughter. She hardly has new dress (for home). Since Im officially an Instagram addict, I want to snap pictures as much as possible because editing is fun! I managed to buy Snapseed apps when it went free last week. Yayyy, the normal price is $4.99.

Anyways, I made a dress using a batik sarong, bought in Bandung 3 years back. Love the colors, not a usual floral batik prints and suitable for anything you want to sew. Batik sarong, is a good deal since its big, almost 3 yards I think and I could make 2 dresses out of it, and still got remaining, which, I can make few bags I think.

Peasant dress on the left, and another on the right. See the different expression? :p

Last nite, I made one order for Nurul. Nurul was a walk in customer in last Crafty Market, and one of the order is this hat, for a friend's son. Happy birthday little boy!

Yellow cars fabric & Turqouise Train fabric. Super ♥

This is the 3rd dress I made for Nasya this week. The fabric was bought last 2 years for Nasya's baju kurung and suddenly it turns out to be a dress. :D

Using the same pattern for Nasya's 2nd birthday dress.

And last but not least, this is a DIY skirt. I posted this in the FB yesterday. Using a natural cotton, I sew, dye, draw and let Nasya color it. Em, she did add few drawings of her and a cousin by the slide. I might say that this is a one of a kind skirt, because, another person can hardly make the same skirt as this. You can try this too at home.

Coloring and drawing done using a fabric pen & crayon. Fabric pen can be bought at Art Friend, The Gardens. The fabric crayon can be found in Popular. There are also Fabric Markers by Crayola I saw at Toys R Us.

Flower Picking

My daughter is so obsessed with flowers..She cant see any flowers and straight away went to it and pick it!

Last raya, she enjoyed it so much because we walked to one house to another. Usually we drive. Since she has so many energy, we decided to walk :p.

Surprised why so many flowers by the path..she stopped, picked and smelt it.

I noticed that Nasya can stays in baju kurung for hours. She actually enjoyed it because other people wearing the similar attire - kurung/kebaya/kaftan. Not the usual skirts/dresses/pants.

But after 5pm she did complaint, "Im sweating, hot and tired!"

That's me & her while taking our own sweet time walking to relatives' houses.

Happy Wednesday!

Urbanscapes 2011!

Ok, so Markets 2011 passed already, so lets talk Urbanscapes!

I copy & paste from the website itself.

What is Urbanscapes?
Urbanscapes is organised by KLue and is the first and only all-day “user-generated” creative arts festival. Urbanscapes aims to bring together communities and participants from the fields of music, arts, lifestyle, film under a single banner to showcase the best of the local scene.

Is Urbanscapes a two-day event?
No, Urbanscapes is only a ONE-day event. It runs from 12pm to 12am.

Is Urbanscapes free?
No, Urbanscapes is not a free festival. You will need a ticket if you want to access the festival grounds.

There are lots of FAQ you can read there..

Anyway, after almost 3 years making hats, I think this event is the right time to challenge myself making hats for adult! I do take adult hats orders when I was free, but I feel guilty for not doing it officially. So now is the TIME.

So, during this Urbanscapes, I will be selling adult HATS! Officially launching during this event. To get to be a vendor is quite challenging. Tell me, how can a kids clothing brand (read:me/okinokiyo) logically can be a vendor? Its somehow impossible, but because I think maybe this is the right time, *even i myself do not know when is the right time* and the organizer gave the green light for Okinokiyo being a vendor to sell adult hats and I truly appreciate the trust & chance.

Im a bit confuse myself whether to come out with another brand or not, but let the time tell...if it went well, then there will be a new brand under Okinokiyo for this adult hat.

So, to those who keep asking me whether I do make hats for adults, yes, do come during the Urbanscapes, and I will sell them at introduction price. Best thing is, you will get 10% discount when you buy again at the second time - kids hats/kids baju kurung/apron/dresses/etc under Okinokiyo brand.

Why hats?
Why not? but as introduction, I will stick to few designs. And best thing is, one design each prints.

Designer prints?
Yes/no. Im not sure. Do you feel embarrassed wearing something child like prints? I dont. But somebody else maybe. So, Im not sure. Im still in the testing phase. Cut few fabrics anyway, and see how it goes. But still, one print, one design, and one design is not the same as the other. Very personal and unique.

Reversibe?
Yes & no.

Ladies & Men?
Yes & no. :)

Since this is an adult, teenagers event, Im sure, those who love art, music, creative industries, should drop by. Parents, Im not sure kids are ok to come or not. Better go ask around to those who used to come as this is a yearly event. I know its gonna be a HOT day. So, feel free to come and buy my hats :D

Vendors
Not only me, Chic Pop bazaars will be there. Vendors like Old Blossom Box, Mimpi Murni, Zikkos will be there too.

Some from Crafty bazaars will be there too, those who I know are : Kindersoaps, Fabric Fanatics, who else? And I will be sharing booth with Tini - Snazzy n Such :D

But until now, Im still contemplating to bring the kids stuff. YOU, tell me! :)
