Books

I started my 2012 with these 2 books. How about you?

The craft book is a boost actually for me as I already know the tips and tricks but sometimes I think, I need a book just to remind me...So yeah, bought that book in Kinokuniya. Actually my husband bought it for me. :D

Dale Carnegie's book, well, see if I can use that book in marketing my hats, nope actually thats for me to read if Im lacking in public speaking, coz I need to chair few meetings next year (work-wise) and I can count how many times I chair a meeting *butterfly in the stomach*..

And since today is last working day in 2011, I wish you all for the best year ahead, work hard and good luck!!

Chinese Bookfair & Book for sale!

I didnt miss this year Chinese Book Fair at Mines Convention Center so I went with my daughter as usual. My house and The Mines is like 5 mins away :D. Having other twitter/blogger friends make it easier because they sometimes tweet or blog about this. For this event, usually Neeza will go first and I being a lazybum just ask her where were the booths with lots of craft books since all the signage are in Chinese... :p Thanks a lot to Neeza!

I went on Wednesday morning after finished sending all the orders to my customers, right after the fashion show. It was tiring day but after seeing all the books I felt so excited! Crafters know how it feels like. :) All the books are sold at 20% off. So its a bargain!

Last year there was an MPH booth but this time around-none! So I bribe my daughter a box of crayon at RM16 and she was happy.

This is the first batch of book I got. Yes, I went there twice hahaha..The front right side is a Suzuko Koseki's book, price at RM23.40 after less.. I bought 2 zakka books and a children basic dress book (left side, back). Thats the expensive one but after less is not more than RM50.

The second trip was last nite. I told my husband I feel like going again, so we had dinner in Mines and I got another 3 books. The far left (same as mine) is for sale and the most right, I loan it to Hath coz I am busy with other things now...

So, the far left book is for sale. Great for beginner! Some crafters did ask me how I learn sewing, I said by books only and basic to cut, and to operate sewing machine is from my MIL. This is a Taiwanese book and same as Japanese books, it has clear picture, measurement (in cm) and all the patterns included.

It has 24 dresses pattern and 6 accessories pattern. Below is the sneak peak. Im selling at RM43 and plus RM6 poslaju fee = RM49. The actual price is RM54.30 and it was the last book on the shelf :p

Do let me know who is interested - email me okinokiyo@gmail.com.

I will update about the fashion show, by today as well. :D

What made me cry

Hello angels!

I'm very super duper busy at the moment, but I squeeze my little time to write this. Every morning before I start doing work, I will read all the blogs in my favorite and blog list. I am excited what people out there are up to. One of my idol's blog is a must. But then this morning, reading her blog, and other people's blog (they wrote something about her) makes me cry.

Who's my Idol? (in this sewing business)
Anna Maria Horner

See..Anna just gave birth, em maybe not just coz Roman is 9 months old now.. I think so, but then the process of making her latest book, Handmade Beginnings was since Roman in the tummy, and she has 5 kids to manage as well. Roman is number 6. How she juggles her life? I don't think that I handle my only daughter well.

I value time very much up to the extent I scared to sleep, scared I cannot finish the orders, or I cannot find new inspirations, or scared of what if I sleep and I didn't wake up the next day, what will happen next. That kind of scared. But after reading the 2 posts, I cried. OK here what Anna said in her latest book.

"What has taken me precisely six children and countless handmade items to realize, is that this sewing, or nurturing, which is intended mostly for the baby or our home, perhaps benefits me more than any one in the family. Slow hand-stitching forces me off my tired feet and allows me to pay attention to the subtle bumps and squirms of the little one within. Running my hands over potential fabrics for the baby's clothing to check for softness sets my mind into daydreams of what color eyes or hair the baby might have. Using what brain power is still available to me while pregnant, I ponder the design of a nursery quilt which gives me less time to ponder those natural fears and doubts that come with motherhood. All this to say — sewing while expecting has kept me healthy, centered on what matters — more joyful than not."

I have her first book where she said,
"Do you have 500-square foot studio? Great! You only have a spare bedroom? Perfect! What did you say, a mere corner in the laundry room? Oooo cozy! Just the dust floor of a coat closet? That'll do; get a broom and let's go to work!"

I first bought the book when I was starting the journey of sewing. I brought that book to my short trip to Port Dickson and read that sentence and I was so ready to work. Its not how big/small your space are, as long as you have space, you can create, you can be creative.

So, who's your idol in this sewing/crafting business? Lets share!

Bye!

Re(work)

I dont know what happen to me but I think I dont have much time to update blog anymore. I just too occupied with what Im doing.

Nothing new at the moment, but I have many plans in lines and some of them are in progress. I may announce it later by end of month.

Im into books and tv programmes so much. I love to read and watch tv series. So that is the current book Im reading, title is REWORK suggested by a twitter friend. Do you know how cool twitter is? VERY I must say.. I tried to find the book at MPH, Borders (twice) and finally it's there. And its addicting and inspiring.

As much as I love to inspire people, I love to be inspired as well. So, I suggest YOU to read this book.

How you spent your weekend? I, surprisingly didnt sew during last weekend. I spent my quality time with mother in law who's coming here and my husband who just came back from his business trip.

Ok, I need to stop here. I will spill the beans by end of month. I myself could not wait!

My current wishlist - Books

I have Anna Maria's Seams to Me book and frankly speaking, I love her style. In her book, she said, she was raised with her grandmas & mom's work all over the room, she learnt sewing at 5? (If Im not mistaken) and that shocked me.

So, not that Im trying to be her, but I love to raised Nasya and hoping that one fine day, she will feel something like that as well. I feel like want Nasya to enjoy art and craft and who know she can make art & craft her profession one day - by showing her, involving her in everything that I do,buying fabric, cutting, pattern making, sewing, selling, etc..I love to involve her in every single thing I do..

I realised that I dont have any new books lately. So I browsed just now, and I found that these are few books I feel like to purchase...

Last time I bought the Seams To Me book thru Amazon when later I found that MPH do have that book at RM80++..So this time around I searched in AcmaMall and some of them are available there..So, Im hoping to get some of the books in few weeks time :D

Where do you usually buy books?

The missing me

Its been a while since the last time I write in this blog. Reason being is my LO was not well making me have no time to update regularly.

Anyway, during the missing, I received a book from Dayang which I havent had the time to pick it from Pos Malaysia Bangi, a charm packs that I bought from fatquartershop and buttons from Yoonie.

Aren't they delicious?

The charm packs are for me to do the table cloth for my mom. I have no experience at all so I thought just give it a try but then looking at marvelous samples here, I think, I need to go to a class at least learning the basic.

The buttons - I still have no idea. Because all the skirts, tops I sew do not need any button. But then, its not wrong to buy as many buttons as I want right? :p
